Denver Pavilions

Dunn + Kiley were hired by Gart Realty to breathe new life into The Pavilions, Denver’s premier urban shopping district. Located on Denver’s 16th Street the design intent is to create an oasis off the busy and uniform pedestrian mall. The design envisioned “carpets” of granite fields surrounded by dark brick borders. Built on top of a large below grade parking structure the design team was also faced with the challenge of renovating the paving while not unduly interfering with the ground floor retailers’ businesses. This led to the decision to use a combined paving palette of granite bands and a field of iron spot clay brick pavers which could accept pedestrian traffic immediately after being set and also be resilient enough to withstand outdoor dining and snow removal.
