Arapahoe County, Colorado

Client: South East Metro Storm Water Authority (SEMSWA) and Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD)

THK was retained to develop preliminary design concepts, construction drawings and construction administration services for one of the last, deeply eroded reaches of Piney Creek. Methodologies were developed to stabilize banks to eliminate sediment from entering the creek corridor. Aesthetic drop structures are planned to serve as an amenity to the adjacent park as well as to provide a safe crossing for park users. Riparian/wetland benches were created to reestablish vital natural ecosystems as well as root wads to help stabilize banks, wetland and riparian benches, as well as extensive upland shrubs and seed to help transition up to the existing natural park area. Wetland sod, riparian seed and upland shrubs/seed were all utilized to revegetate this natural corridor.
